We
all have guilty pleasures in life. Linkin Park,
Precious Moments figurines, wrestling, German vomit
films, etc. When it comes to standup comedy, Mitch
Fatel is a guilty pleasure of mine.
Long before Opie &
Anthony, Jim Norton, Rich Vos, and all the other
cringe comics skull fucked me, I enjoyed Mitch's brand
of humor. The first time I caught Mitch was on
"The Late Show With David Letterman." I took
a liking to him right away. His off-beat style made an
impression on me and he kept popping up all over
television shortly after that.
Mitch is an adorable
little Jewish fella, with a delightfully perverted
mind. His delivery is very unique - he sounds like an
innocent little boy with a touch of down syndrome. His
material toes the line but never crosses it. You can
see the potential for some real good ol' fashioned
filth, but Fatel always keeps it safe. He possesses
some of the best timing I've ever seen, accentuating
his awkward delivery which helps to sell his material
even more. You won't hear any ground breaking thoughts
on society, political rants, or boring topical shit.
You're in Mitch's little world and it's a fun time for
all.
Receiving a copy of
this CD reminded me how much I enjoy Fatel's act. It's
amazing that a decorated comedian such as Mitch waited
this long to release a CD, but it was well worth the
wait.
The CD begins with a
great routine on the difference between big &
small breasts, pointing out how small breasts have
more personality and aim to please. "Small
breasts are like 'Hi, can I help you with something?',
and you're like 'No, I'm just looking.' Big breasts
are just like 'WE'RE CLOSING IN 5 MINUTES.'"
Another highlight of
the album is when Mitch talks about porn and how bad
the men treat the ladies in it. "I don't like it.
After they're done, they talk about if for 10 minutes.
They're like 'I really gave it to you, bitch hahaha,'
and I'm like 'Excuse me sir, how about a washcloth for
the lady? Poor girl can't even see out of her left
eye."
Putting Fatel's
material into typing doesn't do it any justice, so I
will stop for now. Fatel goes on to tackle other
topics like relationships, panties, his penis,
masturbation, and of course sex.
My favorite part of the
CD is the final bonus track consisting of his 1990
Comic Strip Live! audition. Mitch himself intros the
track and explains how this particular performance
launched his career, because back then the Comic Strip
was the biggest club in NYC. We are then treated to a
15 year old, static-y bootleg that is 10 minutes of
greatness. Mitch on stage was less of a character back
then. He has always stuck to the same set up, punch,
& tag style but he was more fast paced and
"normal" way yonder.
The audio is perfectly
mastered, one of the better sounding comedy albums out
there. The editing is great and comes off as one
perfect set. I love the bonus track idea and wish more
distinguished comedians would include great shit like
that on their albums. Excellent job by Jason Riggs @ Bseen
Media.
In terms of general
comedy this is a must have album. Since this is Cringe
Humor though, I would suggest it to regular site
visitors only if you are familiar with Mitch's work in
the past. If you enjoy HIV & rape jokes as much as
I do, you might be hard pressed to find the "I
like boobies" brand of humor hard to laugh at.
