JFL: Louie CK Named Comedian of the Year

Best part of this award show might have been my appetizer

One of yesterday’s major events at the Just For Laugh’s Montreal Comedy Festival was the 2011 Just For Laugh’s Award Luncheon. Most noteworthy was my appetizer plate of Salmon carpaccio and Israeli cous-cous. Delicious.

Jeff Ross hosted the ceremonies aptly joking of the inclusionary nature of award shows remarking “its like the special olympic, everyone is going to win an award”. This years categories and recipients were as follows

COMEDY WRITERS OF THE YEAR - STEVE LEVITAN & CHRISTOPHER LLOYD (MODERN FAMILY)
BREAKOUT COMEDY STAR OF THE YEAR - KEN JEONG
COMEDY DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR - PAUL FEIG(BRIDESMAIDS)
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - GARRY SHANDLING
COMEDY PERSON OF THE YEAR - LOUIS CK

The overall nature of the event was very light hearted, most noteworthy, Garry Shandling’s humorously dismissive, acceptance speech. Noteworthy lines included,“I havent been to Montreal since the Vietnam War” and teasing the industy crowd with “If you can’t get laid at the Montreal Hyatt Regency bar, you’re a fucking loser.” He concluded with a video montage of clips from all the other award winner’s body’s of work in which he claims recognition for their success, for instance, the intro for Louis CK’s FX Show “Louie” with the credits “CREATED BY GARRY Shandling”.  All in all, a fun industry award love fest luncheon with a delicious strawberry cheesecake tart to conclude.
