Winner: Opie &
Anthony
After being in
limbo for more than 2 years, "cringe radio" made it's
triumphant return to the airwaves when XM Satellite Radio signed
Opie & Anthony this past August.
In October of
2004, Opie & Anthony became the first high-profile, talk
radio show to make the risky jumpy to satellite. The move has
paid off.
Uncensored &
free from FCC regulations, O&A are once again pushing the
envelope of comedy by bringing it's subscribers edgy, juvenile,
& often brilliant entertainment 5 days a week.
Based in the
comedy capital of the world, New York City, O&A have
provided tons of exposure to many working city comics. Jim
Norton, the proverbial 3rd member of the program, has seen his
career skyrocket since joining the program on a regular basis.
Other comedians
such as Rich Vos, Patrice O'Neal, Robert Kelly, & Stephen
Lynch have felt the "O&A Effect" on their careers.
Why do they keep
coming back? Because unlike other morning talk radio shows,
O&A put their egos aside and let other people actually be
funny.
"That's why
I love you guys...you let comics talk forever. I'm telling you,
you can't have more fun on anything else than this (show)",
stated Patrice O'Neal on a recent appearance.
It is a great
honor for Cringe Humor to recognize Opie & Anthony as the
Impact Players of 2004.
